I am confused by
Direct TV's offer of
HD DVR's. They cannot seem to explain why the consumer has to pay $200 for the unit and additional monthly rental fees of $4.99. If you discontinue their service, they collect the
HD DVR back. I asked if the $200. was a security deposit I'd receive back after terminating service, but the answer was no. This seems so shady!
Circuit City doesn't seem to advertise that they only lease the equipment on behalf of
Direct TV.
Consumers (like myself) are assuming that they are purchasing the equipment. Can anyone spell
class action lawsuit? This is a rip-off.

I also purchased a HD Receiver from Circuit city for $100. The original price was $200 but they said it was 50% off. They never informed me that it was a leased receiver from DirecTV. The only way I found out was my billing kept showing that I was leasing a Receiver. After 2 phone calls and 3 e-mails to the service center, I was finally told that the HD Receiver that I thought I purchased and owned, was only mine as a lease.
What some crap.
